Online Catfish investigation

Although more people are actively seeking a new relationship online through dating sites, some people fall victim to the online catfish.

If you experience one or more of the scenarios below you should proceed with caution:

• You've searched online and you can't find them, or when you do, the photos don't match the images on their dating profile.
• The person claims to have an illness or is struggling in another way.
• They're asking for money early into your relationship. They might be saying it's to come and visit you.
• They're telling you they love you, but you've only been talking for a couple of days or weeks.
• They're avoiding face-to-face contact, either physically, or via Skype, webcam or Facetime chats.
• They claim they don't have a permanent address, because they either work or are travelling overseas.
• They're just a little bit too perfect: if it's too good to be true, it usually is.
• Their stories sometimes conflict or don't quite add up.
• They never want to meet up, or if they do, they back out at the last minute.

Do not follow any links sent to you on a dating site as these can lead to phishing sites that steal your log in and password.

It is easy for a catfish to set up a fake online profile, steal someone else's identity, including photo images and masquerade as that person.

The 'Catfish' has only one interest: to elicit money from you by first gaining your trust by appearing to enjoy the same interests as you or pretending to be about the same age as you.

It is worryingly easy to become the victim of a scam or identity theft, but there is even darker side of a Catfish: someone who sets up a fake profile to groom another person with the intention of meeting you, this is very different from the fraudster, the fraudster will never want to meet up with you as this will expose their scam. How we can help?

We understand that appointing a private investigator is a big step and that you might be nervous or embarrassed about sharing your experience, especially if you have paid some money and the person has disappeared.

We are experts at listening respectfully and will guide you through the process carefully. Be assured, our primary aim is to put you at your ease and we are committed to speaking to you in a sensitive and sympathetic manner.

We'll work with you to identify the Catfish, you will need to provide us with a full name and as much information as possible about the subject in question and we will do the rest.

Once we have gathered all the relevant facts about your case, we will develop a cost effective investigation strategy that best suits your specific circumstances.

Your appointed investigator will undertake multiple enquiries to identify the person who has been masquerading as someone else, including, but not limited to a Background Check. All evidence will be presented in a detailed report along with date- and time-stamped photographic and/or video evidence, where applicable, that is admissible in court.

Once you have the evidence, we will assess the options available to you, we highly recommend reporting the crime to Action Fraud, the national reporting centre for fraud and internet crime.

All of our covert surveillance services are conducted within the parameters of the law and to strict codes of conduct. Rest assured; you are in safe hands.
